Dolmens in Rügen

Rügen is the largest island in Germany. It is located off the Pomeranian coast in the Baltic Sea and belongs to the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania (Mecklenburg-Vorpommern). Rügen has a maximum length of 51 km from north to south and a maximum width of 43 km. The island has many dolmens from the Neolithic era, most of which are located on the eastern side of the island. 236 graves were listed on a map of the island that was published by Friedrich von Hagenow in 1829 .

From most of the graves, only few remnants have been preserved today.
