
During World War I, violent fighting took place between October 1914 and December 1915 in Le Bois Brûlé. The French and German trenches were less than thirty meters from each other. The trenches were the scenes of extremely violent fighting. 1,565 French soldiers lost their lives, 7,657 were wounded and 845 were reported missing. On the German side, the losses amounted to approximately 10,000 killed and injured .
