Ta Keo is a temple-mountain in the Angkor Archaeological Park, Cambodia, built primarily of sandstone and dating back to the late 10th and early 11th centuries. It was commissioned by King Jayavarman V and completed by his successor, Suryavarman I. Notable for its massive size and unfinished state, Ta Keo stands as one of the earliest Khmer temples to be constructed entirely from sandstone. The temple consists of five towering sanctuaries arranged in a quincunx, symbolizing Mount Meru, the center of the Hindu universe. Its stark, minimalistic design and lack of decoration suggest that construction may have been halted due to a lightning strike, considered a bad omen. Maybe work stopped simply because of the death of Jayavarman V.
