The site consists of an arrangement of stones, which some have interpreted as a stone circle or a chambered tomb. However, the exact original purpose and layout of Steinacleit remain subjects of debate among archaeologists.
The exact age of Steinacleit is unknown and according to different sources ranges from 1800–1500 BCE or 3000–1500 BCE .
