Early sources indicate that Kilmore Church's location was a center of pagan rituals before becoming a Christian site. The first documented church at Kilmore appeared in the early 13th century. It remained active until the early 17th century when a clash between the MacLeods and MacIntyres clans led to its destruction. A second church was constructed on this site around 1681, the remains of which are still visible in the churchyard today. It served the community until 1874, when it was abandoned.
