La Kiesel is a small French river that flows in the Moselle department. It is a direct tributary of the Moselle river. Along the Kiesel are a number of small German bunkers that were built during World War I. They were part of the German Moselstellung, a line that was built after parts of Lorraine and Alsace fell into German hands following the Franco-Prussian War of 1870–1871. The bunkers along the Kiesel are richly decorated with texts, symbols and ornaments.
