The Marine Peilstand bunkers on the Channel Islands played a role in the German defense strategy during the occupation of the Channel Islands in World War II. The Channel Islands, being the only British territory occupied by German forces during the war, were heavily fortified as part of the Atlantic Wall to prevent any Allied attempts to reclaim them.
The Marine Peilstand bunkers were large naval direction-finding towers. Their main purpose was to spot and direct artillery fire at enemy ships, ensuring the control of surrounding sea areas and preventing naval assaults. These bunkers were equipped with stereoscopic range-finding and observation equipment to determine the distance and direction of incoming enemy ships.

Marine Peilstand 3 (MP3) is the only built tower in Alderney. Measuring position and direction of ships proved difficult, especially if multiple ships needed to be observed simultaneously. Consequently, the construction of six planned bunkers in Alderney was stopped and only the third was completed. MP3 is located on the edge of a quarry in north-east Alderney.
