Knox Church, the largest in Dunedin, stands as a prominent historical and architectural landmark. Construction began in 1872, and the church officially opened its doors in 1876. Among its many notable features is a World War II memorial window, dedicated to Flying Officer Robert Weir Herron of the Royal New Zealand Air Force. Herron, a Lancaster bomber pilot, lost his life during a bombing raid over Germany on 28 April 1944. He was 23 years old.
