Innisfallen Abbey, Kerry, Ireland

The ruins of Innisfallen Abbey are located in Innisfallen Island in Lough Leane. The abbey is a significant archaeological site from the early Christian era. Founded in 640 by Saint Finian, the monastery was active for nearly 950 years. For about 300 years, the monks compiled the Annals of Innisfallen, describing Ireland's early history. On 18 August 1594, the monks were forced to abandon the abbey by order of Queen Elizabeth I.
