Het Loo

Crown Domain Het Loo (Kroondomein Het Loo) is a large royal estate on the Veluwe. Covering about 10,000 hectares, it consists mainly of forests, heathland, and sand drifts. The domain is owned by the Dutch state but placed at the disposal of the monarch as a crown domain.

The estate has historical roots in the hunting grounds associated with Paleis Het Loo near Apeldoorn. Today it functions as a nature reserve where wildlife such as red deer, wild boar, and roe deer live freely. Parts of the area are accessible to the public for hiking, cycling, and nature observation.

Every autumn, sections of the domain are temporarily closed, traditionally linked to wildlife management and hunting activities. The crown domain combines ecological conservation, recreation, and historical royal use within one of the largest continuous nature areas of the Veluwe.
