Battery Hanstholm I was part of the German Atlantic Wall fortifications in Denmark. Hanstholm, located on the northwest coast of Denmark, was a key strategic location for Germany during World War II due to its position on the North Sea. Its location gave it control over the entrance to the Skagerrak, the sea route between Denmark and Norway that connected the North Sea to the Baltic Sea. Hanstholm became a heavily fortified area.

The first guns were placed in open positions. In 1942, the construction of bombproof bunkers with 2 m thick walls and ceilings began. Due to erosion, many bunkers of the Atlantic Wall in Denmark lie on the beach or even in the sea. The bunkers of Hanstholm I lie in a dune area further inland and are in good condition.
