Bleekemeer

The small lake Bleekemeer is located near the much better known Uddelermeer lake. Bleekemeer was probably formed as a pingo ruin during the Saalian, the penultimate ice age. After the melting of the ice a hole remained that forms the lake today. The lake is much shallower than Uddelermeer and the vegetation makes it look more like a swamp. From the 1850s the area was used for peat cutting, and at the beginning of the 20th century it reached its current shape .
