The village of Azannes-et-Soumazannes contains two German World War I war cemeteries, Azannes I and Azannes II. Many soldiers who died during the first months of the Battle of Verdun are buried there.

Azannes I is a mixed cemetery with 817 war graves. The original municipal cemetery of the village has an impressive entrance gate. The village was occupied by the German army in 1914 and the cemetery was expanded with graves for fallen German soldiers in 1916.
